This is just a little tutorial to help you guys get a handle on HTML.
What is HTML?
HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, and it is how the browsers see the web. HTML code instructs browsers what to display. If you right click on this page and click "View Source", "Page Source", or something similar, you will see a large amount of HTML. All of it tells your browser how to display this page. HTML is very similar to BBC code, because BBC is actually derived from HTML. However, HTML is more powerful than BBC.
What are Elements?
An Element is a portion of HTML codes that tells the browser to display something a certain way. For example, the BIG element has this effect:
This is an example of the big element!What is a tag?
Elements are made up of Tags. There are two types of tags: beginning and ending tags. Beginning tags tell the browser "Until you run into the ending tag, format everything this way". A beginning tag consists of a keyword enclosed in < >. So the beginning tag for the BIG element would be:
- Code:
-
<big>
The ending tag tells the browser "OK, we're done with this effect". It consists of the Keyword with a slash in front of it, enclosed in < >. So the ending tag for Big would be:
- Code:
-
</big>
So, to make text big using HTML, you would do this:
- Code:
-
<big>This is an example of the big element!</big>
